The Saxons from Transylvania (video)

The Saxons settled in Transylvania more than 800 years ago, in the 12th century.

Ulf Ziegler, priest Evangelical Church C.A.: “It is interesting that many think that the Saxons came here on their own. That is not true. They weren’t Saxons; they became that here, through the rights they received. A Saxon could have been a person that didn’t speak German. Saxon is a legal term, offered by the Hungarian King to the people that settled here.”

In the video below you can discover the connection between the Saxons and the fortified churches built in Transylvania, their history and contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of the local community.
