General objective:

  • Conservation of the cultural immaterial patrimony of the Hungarian minority from Romania with the help of XXI century technologies;
  • Distribution of traditional folk culture to the wider public.

Specific objectives:

  • creating a documentation and archiving centre for the Association of Hungarian Folk Dance from Romania;
  • gathering, digitalizing, cataloguing of private collections received from various personalities of the Romanian cultural life with the aim of creating a database containing audio records, folk collections, videos, pictures that present traditional folk dances and music of Hungarian minority from Romania;
  • publishing a smaller amount of video materials on the internet and providing access to the wider public through a platform in three languages (Hungarian, Romanian and English);
  • publishing a DVD collection and providing access for various cultural entities. A collection will contain 30 DVDs.

Estimated results of the project:

  • one documentation and archiving centre;
  • 800 processed and digitalized traditional melodies and variations;
  • 500 processed and digitalized dance variations;
  • 2500 processed photos;
  • 120 cultural entities as beneficiaries to one DVD collection each;
  • one website in three languages;
  • one DVD collection.

IMPACT

The following results were obtained during project implementation:

  • a documentation and archiving centre was established;
  • a website in three languages was developed, available at http://www.folkmedia.ro/;
  • 251 hours of folklore audio materials processed and digitized;
  • 634 hours of folklore video materials processed and digitized;
  • 203 hours of folklore video published on the project website;
  • 2.557 photographs processed;
  • one DVD collection published ;
  • 120 copies of the DVD collection distributed free of charge to cultural organizations and institutions in Romania and abroad.

Throughout the project Roots in our Moves, 600 hours of folklore video were processed according to professional standards. As a result, 203 hours of folklore video recordings were published under the section Media Archives, at http://www.folkmedia.ro/mediatar/. All materials were also published on Europeana.eu database.

The project results were presented by the implementation team and experts between July and August 2016 in the following events:

  • Public meeting at Bod Péter County Library in Sfântu Gheorghe, 9th June 2016;
  • Public meeting during the 22nd edition of Secler Traditional Dance Camp in Ocna de Sus, 20th July 2016;
  • Public meeting during the 18th edition of Roma Traditional Dance Camp in Comandău, 27th July 2016;
  • Public meeting during the 26th edition of Traditional Dance and Music Camp in Călata, 3rd August 2016;
  • Public meeting during the 25th edition of Traditional Dance and Music Camp in Răscruci, 10th August 2016;
  • Press Conference in Sfântu Gheorghe, 31st August 2016,
