Press release regarding finalizing the revitalization of the southern tower of the Medieval Roman Catholic Cathedral in Alba Iulia

During April 2016, the revitalization of the southern tower of the Medieval Roman Catholic Cathedral in Alba Iulia was finalized. The project financed through EEA Grants, Programme PA16/RO12, included a component of improving public access to the southern tower by installing a special elevator for disabled people.

At the end of the project, the Roman Catholic Archbishopric of Alba Iulia unveiled in a festive setting the exhibition set up in the recently restored south tower. In order to increase the attractiveness of this valuable heritage monument, inside the tower were created exhibition spaces presenting the process and results of the restoration of the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace.

The south tower of the cathedral, located in the center of the city, was made accessible to the public up to a height of 27.64 m, allowing a panoramic overview of the city and historical monuments in its premises. At the same festivities it was also reopened the princely southern gate of the Cathedral, where a special elevator for disabled people was installed.
